Willie Saxer Obituary

Willie Saxer August 12, 1928-April 15, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Willie "Bill" Saxer announce his passing on April 15, 2025 at the Pembina Village in Evansburg, Alberta at the age of 96.

Willie Saxer was born on the family farm in the Hollysprings district on August 12, 1928.

In 1954, he married Violet Croft and purchased his first quarter. Willie had a strong connection with the land and loved being a farmer. He believed that if you took care of the land and your animals, they would provide for you.

Willie enjoyed board games especially checkers and playing cards. His rule was: "A card laid was a card played." If we won, it was because of the skills we developed or good luck. Wille was an honest person who sealed deals with his word and a handshake. If he made a promise, he kept it. Willie’s storytelling talent captivated his children. He entertained us with magic tricks and his sense of humour. A physically strong man he enjoyed arm wrestling any and all challengers. We would watch with pride as he rang the bell on the carnival’s sledgehammer game.

Left behind with cherished memories are his children; Carol(Gordon) Ostertag, Andrew (Patricia) Saxer, Elaine (Darcy) Gillies and Mark Saxer, his Grandchildren; Michelle (Tim) Letwin nee Ostertag, Michael Ostertag, Ashley (Kazz) Leer nee Saxer, Amber Saxer, Wesley Saxer, and Chloe Gillies, his Great Grandchildren; Elise Letwin, and Ryder and Reeves Leer, his siblings; Irvine Saxer, Emily Blackford, and Fred Saxer and numerous other family members. Willie was predeceased by his loving wife Violet, his parents Willi and Freida Saxer, and his siblings Freda Babcock, Lena Dribnenky, and Hans Saxer.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Murphy for providing excellent medical care and to the compassionate staff at the Good Samaritan for always treating our dad with kindness and respect. In accordance with his wishes, there will not be a service.
