Shirley Marilyn Ware
March 17, 1952-Februay 19, 2025
It is with profound sadness that the family of Shirley Ware announces her passing on February 19, 2025. Shirley passed away peacefully at the Devon hospital, with her family by her side, after a brief battle with cancer. She leaves to mourn her loving husband Tom (Norman) Ware; her daughter, Ashley; son-in-law Chris, whom she affectionately referred to as “sainted” (a nod to Shirley’s humor) and her beloved granddaughter Willa Johnson.
She was predeceased by her parents, Wilhelmina and Rudolph Weist; her “big bother” Otto, and his wife Rae, long -time residents of Evansburg Alberta; her sister-in-law, Wynn Weist; her nephew Kelly Weist; as well as her father-in-law, Earl Ware and mother-in- law, Jean Ware.
Shirley is survived by her sister, Mary Ann; brother-in-law, Garry; and her nieces, Kerry and Trena Lorenz, along with great-niece and nephews Cody, Cadence, Issac and Lucas Mutch. She is also survived by her brother, Wally Weist, and his children, Janice (Dan); Nevin (Barb) and daughter-in-law Deloyce, and their children: Bethea, Darby (Daniel and their daughters Soleil & Pearl), Braeden (with daughter Penelope) Sam, Liam, Isabella, David, Nolan and Avi.
She is also survived by her brothers-in laws Danny, Jay and Evan Ware.
Shirley was a wonderful person with a gift of making lasting friendship. She was easy to love and had a great sense of humor. In her final days, she wanted all her family to know that she loved them, including the friends that she considered to be extended family (she said “You know who you are”).
A heartfelt thank you is also extended to her neighbours the Rusin’s, Teri Robinson and to Neal Szautner, who have provided extra care and support to Shirley and Tom during this challenging time. Additionally, thank you to Lanny, Jolene and Ralph (Beverly) of Town and Country Funeral Services for their friendship and support during and after her illness.
Shirley will be remembered for her amazingly beautiful yard and her equally amazing hospitality. She was dearly loved and will be dearly missed.
For those wishing to honour Shirley’s memory, donations can be made to the Wynn Weist U of A Memorial Scholarship or a charity of your choice.
Shirley’s Celebration of Life will be held at the Evansburg Legion Hall on Saturday April 12, 2025 at 1pm. A private inurnment will take place later in the Spring.
