Robert Brown

It is with overwhelming sadness we announce the sudden passing of Robert (Robbie) Brown on May 31st, 2023. Robert passed away at home in Entwistle at the age of 70 years. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

Robert leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Karen of more than 50 years, his three children, Glenn (Sharon) Brown of The Woodlands, Texas, Chris (Laurie) Brown of Wildwood, and Carrie (Robb) Finlayson of Spruce Grove as well as close niece Melanie Thomas of Vegreville. Seven grandchildren called him Papa – Alexandra (William) Mackay-Brown, Jenessa Brown, Chris Jr. and Jake Brown, Malcolm, Cade and Kinsley Finlayson.

Rob is also survived by his brother Allen (Cindy) Brown of Edmonton, his sister Jean (John) Puckering of St. Albert, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ila and Kerry Miller of Edson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Rob was pre-deceased by his father Robert Brown Sr. (2010), his mother Phyllis (Brown) Jevne (May 2023), brother Jim Brown (2011), father-in-law Bud Tufty (2006), his mother-in-law Phyllis Tufty (2022), sister-in-law Penny Thomas (1986), his maternal grandparents (Milton and Kathleen Yandt) and paternal grandparents (Ernest and Sarah Brown).

Robert married Karen in 1972 in Entwistle, where they raised three children on the family farm a mile east of Entwistle School. He worked hard at numerous jobs including the Evansburg Creamery and in 1979 started as a labourer at TransAlta Utilities (formerly Calgary Power) at the Sundance plant. There he obtained his Millwright ticket and continued to work for 35 years before he retired in 2014.

After 25 years on the family farm, Rob and Karen moved into the Village of Entwistle. His greatest joys came from spending time with his family, and he especially loved being a Papa to his seven grandchildren. Many also called him a friend that could be relied on.

A Celebration of Life for Robert will be held Friday, June 23rd, 2023, in the Entwistle Community Hall at 1:00pm.
