The family of Pete Semenyna sadly announce the passing of their beloved father, Gedo and Great Gedo on Monday, May 30, 2016 at the Drayton Valley Regional Hospital.  He was a man of integrity with a deep faith in God.  He was ready and anxious to meet his Lord and Savior and go home to heaven.  

He leaves his daughter Betty (Pete) Visser of Lethbridge, Richard of Calgary, Ernie (Judy) of Magnolia, Bill (Sandy) of Edmonton, Dennis (Lois) of Rimbey and Gary (Patsy) of Wasa, BC, 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, as well as numerous extended family members.  He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Mary, in 2013, his daughter Vicki in 2016, his daughter-in-law Lloy in 2010, his brother Mike in 2006 and his parents, John and Julia Semenyna.  

Pete was born in Ozeranka, Poland (now part of Ukraine) in 1927 and came to Canada at the age of 12 with his mother and brother.  His father had left to build a new life in Canada before he was born, so Pete met his dad for the first time when he arrived at the family farm north of Evansburg.  In 1948, he married Mary Pastushuk from Round Valley and they lived on the original homestead.  Pete loved his family, farming, cattle and John Deere tractors.  When Pete and Mary retired from farming, they moved to Evansburg.  After Mary’s passing, Pete lived at the Legion Lodge and then Pembina Village in Evansburg.  

The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Parkcourt Community Hall.   A public viewing will be held at 12:00 noon for those who wish to attend.  Interment will follow at the Evansburg Baptist Cemetery.
