Gladys Simon
Peacefully, and surrounded by her children, Gladys Evelyn (Anderson) Simon passed away on August 5, 2025, at the age of 85 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Ken (Jill) and Trina (Colin); her grandchildren: Trever (Kristy), Jeffrey (Mindy), and Katherine; and her great-grandchildren: Dane and Liam. She will also be deeply missed by numerous extended family members and friends.
Gladys was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Arnold; her brothers Roy, Jimmy, Jerry, Bruce, Bill, Bobby, Victor, Don, and Dewy; and her parents, Harold and Henrietta.
Born at home in Hargwen, Alberta, on December 14, 1939, Gladys grew up riding horses, fishing, and developing a lifelong love of animals. As a young woman, she worked at Tekarra Lodge in Jasper, Alberta, before meeting Arnold through her brother Jerry, who brought him to Harqwen one day.
The two married in Hinton in 1959, living first in Robb, then Harqwen, before settling in the Evansburg area. There, they raised cattle, horses, pigs, and chickens. She was always quick to aid in hard work, helping Arnold and Ken with their logging company, Simon Logging.
Gladys was funny, independent, and strong. She was known for her sharp wit, her love of music, and Edmonton Oilers games. Above all, she cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Sunshine Place Seniors Lodge for their care and compassion.
At Gladys’s request, no formal service will be held.
