George was born on the family homestead, on July 24th 1926. He was the youngest in a family of five. He had four sisters; Janet, Margaret, Marion and Sarah. He attended school in Park Court, then in Evansburg for high school. After high school, he began farming the family farm alongside his dad, until eventually, taking over completely. George met his wife, Joan, at a dance at the Park Court Hall in April 1961. They courted for a short time, got engaged in July, and married the following year on May 26th 1962. They had their first son, Donald, on August 11th 1966, followed by Keith, on December 7th, 1967.
George was an active member of the community, helping keep the community association going, planning and designing the extension of the Park Court hall with neighbors. George was a lineman for the community for many years. He drove the school bus for Evansburg schools from 1969 to mid 1983.
Farming was George’s passion and life. He raised registered Angus cattle from the mid 1940’s until 1991, then grew grain and hay. Harvest was always a fulfilling time, as the result of the season’s work was seen. George’s hobbies included his love of dancing with his wife. For about 51 years they enjoyed square dancing, round dancing and social dancing. George passed down his knowledge of farming, building, mechanics, family and life to his sons, who both excel in those areas.
From his first day to his last, George happily lived his life on the family farm. He is survived by his wife Joan, two sons Donald and Keith, Keith’s wife Argentina, and their three children, Maria, Ethan and Jason; and two great grandchildren from Maria; Kinnin and Adelynne.
