Fern Liknes Obituary

Fern was born into a large, loving family - the seventh child of nine, and sixth daughter of Fred and Hazel Fausak. Fern was a force larger than life – leaving us with a profound sense of loss. She was a whirlwind of activity – often accomplishing more in a day than the rest of us could do in a week. To those that loved her, worked with her, and relaxed with her – her death leaves a gigantic hole.  Fern’s natural beauty was unmistakable, her laughter and contagious smile filling every room she entered. She was influential to all who knew her – her zest for life and determination to overcome obstacles swiftly and compassionately will have a lasting impact on those gifted to know her.

She was a talented business woman, being brave to step up and make hard decisions, but most of all her soft heart making others feel better during hard times. Fern was always generous and never judgemental.

Fern spent the majority of her life in Evansburg, first working as a teacher in Peers and Wildwood and then as co-owner of Woodland Lumber with her husband Al and her brother Floyd.  Her happiest days were those spent working alongside Al, Floyd, her children, and those trusted employees who also became dear friends. She coveted vacations in Mazatlan, Mex. with Al, buzzing around the city shopping for things to decorate their condo, hanging out with her Paradise Bay friends, and family. She loved to relax by the pool with a cold one.

She cared deeply for her family and even when she was ill it was important for her to be at home so that her children, grandchildren and siblings could come and visit her. Fern was taken from us far too early, treatment from the cancer that ravaged her body, too little too late. She passed peacefully from this life to the next at home in her husband’s arms. She will be incredibly missed.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband Allen, her six children – Lana, Clint (Jen), Lucas (Wendy), Katie (Jacob), Eric (Cam) and Everett. Her children were her pride and joy.  Also left to miss her are her 14 grandchildren: Austin, Tristin, Rownin, Deagin, Clayden, Jaymes, Eve, Abel, Espen, Drake, Kiara, Hannah, A.J. and Lila, and her siblings- Maureen (Bob), MaryBelle (Mark) Valerie, John, Faye, Floyd (Donna) and Geneve (Henry) and many nieces and nephews all of whom Fern considered dear. Fern was predeceased by her parents, her sister Helen, her brother and sister-in-law Alvin and Kathy as well as other family and friends.

Our comfort, though our hearts are broken by her absence, is that one day we’ll be reunited in heaven once again with her.

In lieu of flowers/cards Fern's family would ask that you go to "Batten Sisters" on Facebook to make a donation to a fund that will help treat Fern's two precious grand-daughters who have been diagnosed with Batten's disease.
