Ethel MacRae Obituary

Ethel Marjory MacRae passed away Friday, April 15 at the age of 93. Beloved Mother, Grandmother, sister and friend to all.
Ethel was born to Annie and Lawrence Palmer June 23 1928 in Styal, Alberta. She was raised on a farm along with her 7 siblings until her family bought the Cafe and Service Station in Evansburg, Alberta. In her early twenties she met and married the love of her life Alexander (Sandy) MacRae and raised three sons until Sandy passed away in 1963. In the years following she dedicated her life to her sons and moved back to Evansburg where she helped her Mother with the dress store that she owned and worked as a telephone switchboard operator. Later on she ended up working for the Dairyland Creamery in Evansburg where she worked for 25 years. During that time she found new joy in becoming a Grandma, they then became her life. She spent every moment cherishing family, being a devoted friend and became a pillar in the community. She loved music and you would often hear Rita McNiel or bagpipe music coming from her car. She also loved to travel, where she would visit her siblings in Smithers BC, or travel across Canada. Her dream was to go to the UK, and she fulfilled that dream by traveling through Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales. She loved to keep busy and would find odd jobs to work at. She would also volunteer at the Evansburg food bank. She loved to socialize and her grandchildren would often say how it took longer to go anywhere because she knew so many people that would stop to talk to her no matter where they went. Ethel was a woman of strong faith and high morals and always lived every day to the fullest. She loved fiercely and cared deeply about everyone. She will truly be missed.
