William O'Shea Obituary

It is with shock and sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of William Patrick O'Shea (Bill) of Parkland County on Friday, December 15, 2023 at the age of 82.

On November 9, 1941 Bill was born in Vancouver, B.C.  He was an only child but had a close friendship with his cousin Frances Cleavely which continued throughout his life.  The family moved to California several years later.  Bill became an American citizen and served in the United States Navy.  Later, he returned to Canada and became a welder, a career he had until retirement.  He is predeceased by his father Russel Shea; mother Olive Switzer Shea; and stepfather Maurice MacDonnell.

Bill lived his life on his own terms.  He had a loud voice, strong opinions, and spoke his mind.  Once you got to know him you would learn that he was caring, helpful, knowledgeable and had a good sense of humour.  Working on vehicles, discussing politics or other controversial subjects, and watching t.v., were hobbies he enjoyed.  His favourite saying were: "To make a long story short" or "Speak up - nobody can read your mind."

When Bill was middle aged he met his wife, Judy, through a personal ad in the newspaper.  He became a stepfather to Judy's two children.  Judy O'Shea passed away on October 24, 2016.  Bill is survived by Lucien Chenard (Diana) and Barb Banack (Lyle).  Grandchildren Lenore (Nathan), Erica (Blake), Chantelle, Nicholas, Dana (Rhys), Joanne (Dominic), Ashlynn, Jamie, Lucas, and Landon.  Great Grandchildren Sebastian, Oliver, Maverick, and Emeryk.

For the past 31 years Bill lived beside Robert and Joanne Russell and their sons, Cody (Sasha) and Brandon (Gavisha).  Originally they were neighbours but over the years they became close friends and considered each other family.  The Russells will miss the daily visits and doing things with Bill.  Christmas Day dinner will not be the same without him this year.

Bill will be cremated and did not want a formal service.  A meal in honour of Bill will be enjoyed by Bill's family and friends at a later date.  Robert and Joanne will take Bill on one last trip to Rosedale Cemetery in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan for interment in the spring.
