Bert Samuel “Sam” Sundstrom
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sam Sundstrom of Darwell, Alberta.
Sam passed away at home surrounded by family on December 24, 2023, at the age of 63 years old after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Born in Pautrask, Sweden he Immigrated with his family to Canada in 1992. He bought a raw quarter of land south of Darwell in 1993, also bought a Backhoe and a Gravel truck and for the following years set out to build a homestead and a farm. He built roads and ditches, drained the water of the slough, won the war with the Beavers, and managed to build up the land enough for a site for our home, pasture for the cows and of course a Riding arena for the kids. In 1996 he moved the family onto the homestead.
Sam worked in Forestry. He was involved with many aspects from Silviculture to Harvesting and Education of Forestry operating systems to troubleshooting and repairs of forestry machinery.
When Sam was not busy with work, the homestead, or the farm, he dedicated his time to Cattle Shows, Horse Shows and Dog Shows, Pony Club, 4H, Canine Search and Rescue and volunteering in the community.
Sam was also a believer in Jehovah and studied scripture passionately and enjoyed discussions about faith and the true meaning of scripture.
Sam will be lovingly remembered by Katarina, his wife of 39 years and daughters Matilda (Dave), Gabriella, Angelica, and Son Adrian. Extended family in Sweden and friends.
Sam was predeceased by parents Gerd and Henry Sundstrom
A memorial service will be planned in the spring of 2024.
